Biography
Blackwater Railroad Company formed in Seward, Alaska, in the winter of 2012, after singer-guitarist Tyson Davis began performing original songs at an open mic night at Seward's Yukon Bar. The founding lineup was Davis, bassist Andy Zamarripa, cellist Katy Larkin, and fiddler Noah Hull Diamond, with vocalist Isaac London joining shortly after on a bandmate's recommendation. The band's membership has rotated over the years since; a later, well-documented touring lineup added Nichole Campanale, Ben Sayers, and Leo Storm Ash on pedal steel and slide guitar.
The band's sound moves through bluegrass, country, rock, and Americana, built around Davis's songwriting and the group's harmony-driven live performances. They have released a series of studio albums over more than a decade, including Bottom of the Bay (2014), Sound of Home (2015), Nenana (2016), the Onsara Series (2017–2018), Rainville (2019), and A Lovely Place to Die (2024).
In 2015, the band traveled with and performed at events accompanying the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree — a Lutz spruce cut from Alaska's Chugach National Forest — across its route to Washington, D.C. Based in the small port town of Seward, the band continues to tour regionally and internationally while remaining closely identified with their hometown.
