Biography

Jewel Kilcher was born in Payson, Utah, in 1974, and moved with her family to Alaska shortly afterward, settling on the Kilcher family homestead near Homer. After her parents divorced, she was raised there by her father, musician Atz Kilcher, performing and yodeling with him from childhood in a home that lacked indoor plumbing. Atz Kilcher later appeared on the Discovery Channel series Alaska: The Last Frontier, which documents the extended Kilcher family's homestead life.

Jewel's debut album, Pieces of You, was released in February 1995 on Atlantic Records and was certified 12x Platinum by the RIAA, driven by singles including "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "You Were Meant for Me." She has been nominated for multiple Grammy Awards over her career.
